2025 Summer Golf Events: Tournaments, Twists, and Tradition

The summer golf calendar at Desert Mountain offers members a rich mix of competition, variety, and opportunities to connect on the course. Every event is designed to bring something fresh, whether it’s honoring a century-old tradition or introducing a playful new format.

Southwestern Amateur Championship
Held June 11–14 on the Outlaw Course, this prestigious tournament welcomes 72 of the top amateur men and 72 amateur women from across the country. Now in its 110th year, the Southwestern Amateur is one of the oldest events of its kind in the United States. Since partnering with Desert Mountain in 2013, the event has elevated the Club’s standing in the national and international amateur golf community. Past champions include household names like Craig Stadler, Mark O’Meara, and Ryan Palmer.

Women’s Golf Day
This global celebration is about growing the game for women of all skill levels. Desert Mountain offers special promotions and programming to recognize and support its community of female golfers. It’s a chance to try something new, connect with other women, and enjoy a relaxed but meaningful day on the course.

The Second Team All-American 
Hosted at No. 7, this solo scramble format lets players take multiple shots from each position and choose the best one to play forward. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to test their shot-making and course management in a low-pressure but competitive environment.

Scramble with a Twist 
This 4-player scramble on Geronimo adds a surprise element to every hole. One hole might allow a free toss instead of a shot, while another could make bunkers irrelevant. Teams need to think fast and adapt as the twists keep coming.

Red, White & Blue Day
Celebrated on the newly restored Cochise Course, this July 4th patriotic event invites 4-player teams to rotate tee boxes each hole. Everyone plays from green, red, and white tee markers throughout the round. The format is Select Drive Better Ball, with two scores counting per hole (gross and net). The event includes breakfast, on-course beverages, and small bites after the round.

Monsoon Member/Member 
This July event uses a 6/6/6 format: six holes of better ball, six holes of alternate shot, and six holes of scramble. Played on Outlaw, this two-player team event gives members the chance to work through different styles of play. With tailored tee assignments based on handicap index, the format ensures competitive balance. The morning includes breakfast, on-course beverages, and small bites after the round.

Gila Monster Pro-Am 
Also known as the Superintendent’s Revenge, this tournament invites three members to team up with a Desert Mountain pro for a fun and unpredictable scramble on Geronimo. Tee times replace the usual shotgun format, and course setup is intentionally designed to surprise.

Summer Member/Guest 
Held on Cochise in early August, this event pairs one member with one guest in a two-format, 18-hole round. The first nine are better ball, while the second nine are played as a scramble. The event includes breakfast on the range, mid-round drinks, a lunch buffet, cart fees, and generous tournament prizes.

Cross Country Pro-Am 
This late summer event takes place on Outlaw and features a custom layout built specifically for the day. Five-player teams (four members and one pro) play a Step-Out Scramble that rewards strategy and teamwork. Tees are adjusted to suit the layout, offering a new perspective even for longtime members.

Unlocking the Jim Flick Golf Performance Center

The Jim Flick Golf Performance Center is one of Desert Mountain’s most valuable resources for players aiming to elevate their game. With top-tier technology and expert instruction, the facility supports everything from swing analysis and custom club fitting to short game development and full-swing refinements.

Inside, members have access to high-speed cameras, launch monitors, swing analysis tools, and motion capture systems. Every session offers precise feedback, helping players better understand their mechanics and make lasting improvements.

The instruction team customizes lessons to each player’s needs, offering everything from private coaching and short game tuning to full-swing rebuilds. Club fitting services are also available on site.
